I think video is incredibly important. There is no better way to show the world just how great you are. Video provides a visitor to your website an important glimpse inside your company, who you are, your products, how you do what you do and what your mission is.
Case in point... I LOVE this video from Dollar Shave Club
Why do I love it? It's funny, (which is great if you can do it and co-founder, Michael Dubin does it) it gives you a look inside the actual operation (authentic and self exposing), it is High Quality (not shot on an iPhone), the sound is clear. They didn't ask their HS AV Club or their Uncle Bernie to take care of it for them. Whatever Dollar Shave Club spent to get this video made... Back to my point. There are lots of people out there who don't realize the importance of thoughtful and well executed video and choose instead to shoot an important piece of collateral like this on an iPhone (or Galaxy) and then try to edit it. Just because you HAVE Final Cut on your computer, doesn't mean you HAVE TO use it... stick to Christmas or Cat videos and let a pro take care of your professional production (big hug).
A schlocky, poorly edited, out or focus, bad sounding video will HURT you more than help you. If this sounds like your website, run, don't walk to take it down. It is a vivid illustration of how your company doesn't have its act together. Would you do business with that outfit?
Video, front and center, is the key to bringing your authentic product, personality or brand right at the consumer. You could pay Mike Dubin to go door to door for you but it would be a waste of his time and your money. Video is more impressive, efficient and effective. A great investment. Hoo Rah! Video!
